To the south is the whole of the City Centre, a fifteen minute walk away; to the east is the Gloucester Road with all its independent shops and eateries; or, walking north through Cotham and Redland, you can reach Clifton and the huge expanse of The Downs. Somerset Street has small parks at each end and is surrounded by tree-lined streets and avenues as well as other green spaces such as those at Redland Church and the university gardens on St Michael's Hill. The local pubs are all thriving, including The Kingsdown Wine Vaults, The Hare on the Hill, The Hillgrove Porter Stores, the Cotham Porter Stores and The Green Man and the Michelin starred restaurant, the Bulrush, is just round the corner.
