Smarter Renovation Filters for More Precise Home Searches

When we first launched our "Renovation Potential" filter, our goal was simple: help buyers spot homes where they could add value. But as we dug deeper, we realised that this filter did not fully capture the range of what "renovation potential" really means.

What We Learned

Our original filter used Jitty’s AI to scan every property photo and assess whether a home needed renovation. While this was groundbreaking, it grouped a wide range of properties into one single category, from homes that only needed a cosmetic update to places that were virtually uninhabitable.

The reality is, buyers have very different expectations when it comes to renovation:

  • Some are investors looking for serious projects to flip.
  • Others are happy to take on a big challenge if it means getting a great deal.
  • Many want only a light project, something they can improve without living on a building site.

By putting all of these into one "Renovation Potential" filter, users often had to sift through properties that did not always match what they were looking for.

Some of the Challenges

  • Derelict homes (unliveable, major works required) were getting mixed in with minor fixer-uppers.
  • Properties that truly "Required Renovation" (liveable but in poor condition) were not surfaced clearly enough.
  • Buyers wanting move-in-ready homes sometimes had to navigate listings that needed work.

In short, we were underselling the scale of work some properties needed and oversimplifying a spectrum of conditions into one vague filter.

What’s Changed

At Jitty, we are all about giving you the power to find exactly the home you want. We have redesigned our property condition filters to be clearer, smarter and more precise:

  • Good Condition – Homes that are ready to move into Day 1 with no work required.
  • Renovation Potential – Liveable properties that are dated and ready to modernise.
  • Renovation Needed – Liveable but in poor condition, requiring significant work.
  • Derelict – Uninhabitable properties that require major restoration or rebuilding.

This change gives you far more precision when searching for the exact type of home you’re looking for. Whether you are looking for a light update, a full-scale renovation or something pristine, you can now filter for exactly what you want.

Why It Matters

By breaking renovation down into these clear categories, we have:

  • Improved accuracy: Our AI now assesses property condition using definitions that reflect real-world expectations.
  • Given buyers more control: You can now focus on exactly the type of property that matches your plans.

The Bottom Line

This update is about giving homebuyers more power, clarity and confidence. With these new filters, you can focus on homes that truly fit your vision, whether you are ready to pick up a paintbrush or simply want the keys to a finished home.
