Jitty Launches New Way to Search for Energy-Efficient Homes in the UK

Updates from the team behind Jitty - where we share what’s new in the product and the most interesting homes we’ve spotted along the way.

With energy bills remaining one of the biggest financial concerns for UK households, we have now launched our new Green Homes category filters, designed to help homebuyers find energy-efficient homes with lower long-term running costs.

As the prospect of rising household bills starts to reshape how the average person thinks about the potential of owning a home, buyers are increasingly looking beyond the purchase price alone and quite rightly asking the question:

“How much will it cost me to live here in the long run?”

Now, Jitty helps homebuyers find homes with solar panels, heat pumps, EV charging points and underfloor heating. You can search by using our filters or simply by typing something like “3-bed homes with solar panels” into the Jitty search bar.

Why energy efficiency matters right now

Monthly outgoings - particularly energy bills - have become a major influence on homebuying decisions. Buyers are no longer focusing solely on deposits and mortgage repayments. Long-term running costs are now part of budgeting appropriately.

The launch of our new Green Homes fillters comes as the government’s £15 billion Warm Homes Plan aims to upgrade up to 5 million properties by 2030, highlighting how central energy performance has become in both national policy and household budgeting.

Did you know that around 18 million homes in the UK still have EPC ratings of D or below, typically associated with higher energy bills? Government data shows that homes with higher EPC ratings can cost significantly less to heat than lower-rated properties - creating a meaningful difference in terms of annual running costs.

Despite this, buyers have previously had limited ways to search for energy-efficient properties directly.

What do the Green Homes filters allow me to do?

Jitty’s Green Homes filters helps homebuyers discover properties with features designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce ongoing costs.

Homebuyers can now search for homes with:

  • Solar panels
  • Heat pumps
  • EV charging points
  • Underfloor heating

You can search by:

  • Selecting energy-focused filters directly, or
  • Type wording such as “3-bed homes with solar panels and a heat pump” into the Jitty search bar

Multiple features can be combined in a single search, alongside EPC ratings, making it easier to identify homes that align with your long term budget plans. .

How Jitty can help homebuyers find energy efficient homes

Unlike property portals, Jitty’s AI technology extracts detailed information about energy-saving features from both listing descriptions and photographs.

This means homebuyers can:

  • Search for solar panel homes in the UK
  • Filter properties with EV charging points
  • Discover homes with heat pumps
  • Combine green features with commute time, schools or lifestyle filters

Instead of discovering these energy efficient features by chance at the viewing stage, homebuyers can now search for them deliberately.

A shift in how Britain buys homes

Graham Paterson, CEO and co-founder of Jitty, said: “Home running costs and energy efficiency are no longer an afterthought - they’re central to how buyers think about budgeting. Energy efficiency has shifted from ‘nice to have’ to something that people actively want to factor into their homebuying decisions.

Buyers are already thinking about solar panels, heat pumps and EV charging. Jitty’s new Green Homes filters give them the ability to search for those features deliberately, rather than accidentally coming across them.

As the UK focuses more on upgrading its housing, people searching for their new homes also want to be able to see which homes meet higher efficiency standards, and have affordable long term running costs.”

Why this changes searching for a property in the UK

Sustainability is often mentioned in listing descriptions, but detailed feature-level filtering remains limited across major property portals.

By combining AI-powered search with energy-focused filters, Jitty makes it easier to surface the details that really affect buying decisions - not just the listing price, but long-term affordability.

As energy efficiency becomes a core part of home-buying decisions, property search tools need to evolve to reflect how people actually assess value.

The Green Homes filters are now live on Jitty.
